The Marrow of Psalm 119

"How can a young man keep his way pure?
By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you;
let me not wander from your commandments!
I have stored up your word in my heart,
that i might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O Lord;
teach me your statutes!
With my lips I declare
all the rules of your mouth.
In the way of your testimonies I delight
as much as in all riches.
I will meditate on your precepts
and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.
Psalm 119:9-16

O' how sweet are the words of Psalm 119. What emphasis is placed upon the Word of the Lord and His desires for man. The Word of God, and our adherence to it as Scripture, is the marrow of this portion. The author states that we keep our way pure by discerning our life according to God's Holy Word. Too often do we discern the life God has gifted us with the ways of the world. What a call this Psalm is to know Scripture deeply, to have it "stored up...in my heart" and used to delight in the life that we live according to the ways of the Lord. Scripture must be our guide. Reason must rest upon Scripture first. May the teachings of the world be rebuked and filtered by the precepts of God. May we know God's word and as the psalmist says, "not forget your word."
